Inkscape è un programma open source per il disegno, simile a Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw e Xara X che si basa sul formato standard W3C "Scalable Vector Graphics" (SVG). Tra le caratteristiche supportate da SVG vi sono le forme base, i tracciati, i testi, i segnali, i cloni, le trasparenze, le trasformazioni, i gradienti e i gruppi. Inkscape supporta inoltre i meta-dati Creative Commons, la modifica sui nodi, i livelli, le operazioni complesse sui livelli, i testi su tracciato e la modifica dell'XML SVG. Può importare da diversi formati come EPS, Postscript, JPEG, PNG, BMP e TIFF e esportare in PNG ed in altri formati basati su vettori multipli.
Lo scopo principale di Inkscape è quello di fornire alla comunità Open Source uno strumento di disegno che rispetti pienamente gli standard W3C XML, SVG e CSS2. Inoltre il piano di sviluppo prevede una conversione del codice da C/Gtk a C++/Gtkmm, maggiore importanza all'aggiunta di funzioni tramite il meccanismo delle estensioni e la creazione di un processo di sviluppo aperto, collaborativo e orientato alla comunità.
Inkscape è utile per disegnare:
* Illustrazione per il Web.
* Grafiche per i telefoni cellulari.
* Semplici disegni al tratto.
* Cartoni.
* Complesse opere d'arte.
* Figures per articoli e libri.
* Organigrammi.
Il formato di file che utilizza Inkscape è compatto e velocemente trasmissibile su Internet. Inoltre è potente e può descrivere complessi disegni scalabili a qualsiasi dimensione. Il supporto per questo formato è stato aggiunto ai browser web ed è già incluso in molti telefoni cellulari.
Inkscape supporta il disegno di forme regolari (rettangoli, cerchi, ecc.), percorsi regolari, e testo. A questi oggetti può essere assegnata una vasta varietà di attributi tra cui il colore, il gradiente o riempimenti con motivo grafico, alpha blending, e indicatori. Gli oggetti possono essere trasformati, clonati, e raggruppati. Si possono aggiungere collegamenti ipertestuali per l'utilizzo nei browser web. Il programma Inkscape mira ad essere pienamente compatibile con XML, SVG, e CSS.
Inkscape è disponibile pre-impacchettato per i sistemi operativi Windows™, Macintosh™, e Linux™. Il programma ed il suo codice sorgente sono liberamente disponibili. Si possono ottenere presso il sito web Inkscape.
Inkscape è sottoposto ad uno sviluppo molto rapido con l'aggiunta di nuove funzionalità; la compatibilità con lo standard SVG viene costantemente migliorata.

Il nome dell'articolo potrebbe suggerire un qualcosa collegato al mondo dello spettacolo: niente di più lontano dalla verità. Il casting, nel contesto informatico, non ha assolutamente a che fare con la selezione di un certo sviluppatore come attore in un qualche film ma piuttosto con l'attribuzione del tipo di dati più adatto ad una data variabile per una determinata circostanza implementativa.
Inizio con una semplice constatazione: talvolta il risultato di certe operazioni tra tipi di dati può dare risultati del tutto inaspettati. Ma andiamo con ordine ponendoci questa domanda: cosa accade quando assegno ad una variabile il valore di un'altra variabile appartenente ad un tipo di dati diverso?

Deframmentazione - MyDefrag

MyDefrag is a disk defragmenter and optimizer (a maintenance utility to make your harddisk faster) for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 2008, Win7, and for X64. It is freeware, no time limit, fully functional, no advertisements. Fast, low overhead, with many optimization strategies, can handle floppies, USB disks, memory sticks, and anything else that looks like a disk to Windows. Included are a set of easy to use scripts for endusers, a scripting engine for demanding users, a screensaver, and a combined Windows plus commandline version that can be scheduled by the Windows task scheduler or for use from administrator scripts.
MyDefrag is extremely solid because it is based on the standard defragmentation API by Microsoft, a system library that is included in Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, 2008, and Win7. Most defragmenters are based on this API, including the free defragmenter that comes with Windows and many commercial defragmenters. Basically all MyDefrag does is send "move this file to that location" commands to the API. The API is part of the operating system and can safely move almost any file on the disk, without risk and while the computer is in full use.
Defragmention
Imagine a book split into several parts, some pages are over here, other pages in another room on another floor altogether. You will have to walk a lot when you need to read the book. It may sound silly, but this is exactly what happens to files on your harddisk. Defragmentation will put all the parts (fragments) back together, making your computer a lot faster.
Optimization
Imagine a big library with lots of books, spread out all over the building and not sorted whatsoever. There is an index telling you exactly where every book is, but you will have to walk a lot when you need several books. This is exactly what happens on your harddisk, the files that belong to an application can be all over the place, anywhere on the harddisk. Optimization will bring all the files together in one place, leaving the rest of the harddisk empty, and will sort the files, for example alphabetically.
